First Klingon Opera Set To Launch In The Netherlands 9 Sep 2010, 5:19 am

The first authentic Klingon opera on Earth will be hosted in the Netherlands at the Zeebelt Theater, The Hague from the 9th to the 12th of September 2010. The opera, while attracting Star Trek fans from around the world, also invited some honoured guests. On April 18, a radio message was broadcast to the assumed location of Qo'nos, the Klingon home planet, approximately nine light years away.
Klingon opera uses the principle of musical combat. Beauty in Klingon music comes from the impact of two opposing forces. To quote a well known Klingon proverb 'qa’ wIje 'meH masuv' or 'We fight to enrich the spirit.' The Klingon orchestra is made up of various indigenous Klingon instruments, some that have never been heard on earth before.

image creditDogs on logs? There may seem little point to a series of pictures of dogs atop big pieces of wood - but perhaps that is exactly the point. And why not? Cats at least have the lol variety - dogs seem a little left out.

Trees Completely Fill Front Garden 9 Sep 2010, 5:05 am

Plymouth, UK, residents have complained to the council about the trees outside David Alvand's home, completely filling the front garden. Planted in 1991, shortly after the 66-year-old moved into the area, the famously fast-growing trees - better known as leylandii - are now more than 10 metres tall.
As well as completely obscuring the front of Alvand's home, their higher branches overhang his neighbors' roofs, as well as the pavement. One neighbor said they block out sunlight and make the street look bad.

South Korean Woman Passes Driving Test At 960th Attempt 8 Sep 2010, 6:18 am

South Korean grandmother Cha Sa-soon, 69, whose surname coincidentally means 'vehicle' in Korean, has become a national celebrity by passing her driving test at the 960th attempt. For three years beginning in April 2005, she took her driving test once a day, five days a week. After that, her pace slowed, to around twice a week.
It is believed that Mrs Cha will not be a danger in traffic, since it was on the written part of the test, rather than the practical side, that she had failed so many times. I wanted to get a driver's licence so I could take my grandchildren to the zoo, Mrs Cha explained.

Sun Boxes is a solar powered sound installation. It's comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels. There is a different loop set to play a guitar note in each box continuously.
Because the loops are different in length, once the piece begins they continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time. When experiencing the piece, Sun Boxes allows the participant to slow down, and notice the subtleties of the composition unfold.

The Great Smog of 1952 was a severe air pollution event that affected London in December 1952. A period of cold weather, combined with an anticyclone and windless conditions, collected airborne pollutants mostly from the use of coal to form a thick layer of smog over the city.
It was not thought to be a significant event at the time but in the following weeks however, medical reports estimated that 4,000 people had died prematurely and 100,000 more were made ill because of the smog's effects on the human respiratory tract. More recent research suggests that the number of fatalities was considerably higher at around 12,000.

Cross My Heart And Hope to Die 7 Sep 2010, 5:31 am
The sign, or letter X, has a long history of use in the Ancient Mystery Religions, in apostate Judaism, in Freemasonry, and in the occult. The Illuminati elite use it to this day to symbolize key phenomena and mark significant events. The mysterious letter X seems to take on a wide and varied life of its own, with or without the secret aid of the elite sponsorship.
We have Microsoft's X-box, the movie X-Men, off-brand products are called 'Brand X,' today's youth have been called Generation X, and a lot of folks are concerned about a planet, or star, reported to be speeding toward us called Planet X that has occult significance.
