Images Students Enjoyment Communicate Projects

I know how much you all like to play dodgeball. Well... it turns out that it is an official extreme sport now. The Game Show Network has a program where dodgeball is played in a kind of WWE type of format. I've not seen the show yet, just the commercials. It looks as if the play is real, but the teams are costumed for entertainment purposes. I'm not really sure, but it looks quite interesting. If you would like to check it out on the web, click here. You can check out the rules, teams, showtimes, etc.

Also, I'm sure you know about the Ben Stiller movie titled "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story," but here is a link to check it out in case you are interested. I have no idea if it is any good or not. It seems our classroom game has made the big time.

Alameda County Fair

If you haven't been to the Alameda County Fair yet, you've still got some time. It ends on Sunday. We went yesterday and had a great time. It's kind of expensive, but there is a ton of cool stuff and a bunch of rides and games. I won Killian a stuffed animal playing that game where you shoot water at a target. I was playing against a bunch of six year olds, but I kicked all of their butts. It's in Pleasanton, which is about 25 minutes from Oakland, but it's worth bugging your parents to take you. There are all sorts of animals at the fair and they are all for sale. So, if you are in the market for a cow or a goat it's the place to be. Inside the fair, there is a pretty big petting zoo with all sorts of animals, not just goats and sheep. Anyhow, my mother was putting a quarter into the feed machine, like the ones at the SF Zoo, and before she could hand the feed to Killian a camel put it's mouth in her hand and gobbled it up. Killian was freaked out, but my mom made a new friend. All in all it was a good day.

I would have posted more pictures, but my batteries went dead after these two.

4th of July and New Chicks
Sunday, August 14, 2005, 03:37 PM
I had a 4th of July party yesterday. We had a lot of fun. It was mainly family. All of the uncles, including myself, bought fireworks. Needless to say, we had more than enough. After the party, a group of us went to go see the real fireworks in Concord. It was the shortest show I've ever seen. I guess they can't afford to do the big shows that they used to do. We had a nice time though.

I also received the replacement chicks that I ordered. They came in the mail on Friday. I bought ten and am keeping only 3. The others will be given away. Unfortunately, one of them died around 11:00 p.m. on the fourth. Nesanet noticed that one of the chicks was just standing around while the others were very active. We thought perhaps it may have hurt its foot. So, we separated it and tried hand feeding it. When we came back from the fireworks she wouldn't even stand and was just lying down. She died in Nesanet's hands about 30 minutes later. I have no idea what was wrong. sometimes this happens. She was a bit smaller than the rest of the chicks and may have been a runt. Keep your fingers crossed for the rest of the chicks.

Anyhow, I've included pictures of the chicks and of the party. If you would like to leave a comment or read other people's comments to my original posts, all you need to do is click on the link for comment at the bottom of a post and type in your response. Hazel has done so, but she said it was kind of confusing. You can either opt to sign up for a user name or post anonymously. Either way is okay with me. I will have everybody sign up for a user name next year. Just make sure you type your name at the end of the post so that we know who you are. I will respond to every comment via the blog.

Hi Everybody,

I'm sure none of you are spending too much time looking at websites with the great weather we are having, but I thought starting a blog would be a great way for our class to communicate outside of school hours. So, if you are visiting our site, please add to the blog and let everyone know what you are doing. I have been doing a bit of work this summer... Mainly working on finishing the inside of my wife's studio as well as the outside. I'm putting up siding on the outside and tiling the inside. I also lost a few of the chicks I ordered in April. A dog pulled two of them under the fence and killed them. That was pretty devastating because I saw the second chick get dragged under. Anyhow, I ordered more and the surving chick, the duck, and the goose are all doing quite well. I'm going to breed Metti at the end of Summer or beginning of Fall, and will have bunnies available for all of those people that are intereted. As far as school goes, I spent a good deal of time updating the website and coming up with the word of the days for next year. I uploaded small versions of the films we made. So, now you can view them anytime you like.
